Stockholm weddings: Everything you need to know about planning your dream day in this stunning city
Stockholm is an absolute dream of a location for weddings - breathtaking views, endless summer sun, and an effortlessly stunning & peaceful vibe that can’t be beat. If you’re planning to get married here, get ready to be absolutely WOW’d by how gorgeous your day will be.
But with the dreaminess also comes a few things to keep in mind before starting to plan your wedding day here - So, let’s get to it ↓
1. When to start planning
I’ll be honest, this answer can be a bit subjective (as can a lot of things in the wedding world) - And I hate to give you a vague answer, but it truly depends on what you want for your day.
Want a high-end, weekend wedding experience for you and your guests out in the archipelagos, or a castle in the countryside with hotel rooms for everyone to stay in? It’d be best to start planning at least a year and a half in advance. Maybe even a year, but that might be pushing it.
If you’d like to have a broader choice of venues and vendors to work with, I’d say starting to plan a year before your wedding would definitely suffice.
But if you’re just looking to have a fun day with your favorite people, even a few (4+) months in advance would be good enough. My husband and I planned our wedding in 6 months (engaged January 2nd, married July 2nd), and we had our wedding in the middle of Stockholm with everything that we needed.
Too long; didn’t read - If you’re willing to be flexible, you can still plan a perfect wedding within a few months. But if you know what you want and you don’t want those options to be taken, start with at least a year in advance!
2. What time of year to have a wedding here
Again, it’s honestly up to what vibe you want, but there are a few things to keep in mind for each season:
Winter - Some will say winter here can be a difficult season to have a wedding (less natural light from the sun for photos, winter jackets needed, etc.), but I’d say it can be the coziest time to for one, too. The main two pieces to think about is 1) Choosing a place where you don’t have to be outside for photos for too long, and 2) Making sure there’s time in the schedule during the few hours of possible sunlight for photos as well.
Spring - Spring could be snow, sun, wind, and rain… All in the same day. If you decide spring’s the time you want your wedding, just be prepared ahead of time to expect any of the elements!
Summer - This is one of the easier seasons since the weather tends to be fair and the sun’s out for a while, but if the majority of your guests are flying in from out of town, be aware that flight tickets (and possibly hotels) can be much pricier this time of year.
Fall - Similarly to winter, photos will need to be scheduled around whenever the light’s out. Other than that, I’d say fall is fairly reliable, too; just be prepared with an umbrella even if rain isn’t in the forecast!
3. Where in Stockholm is best for a wedding?
Well, what’s your budget? And how many people do you want to invite? (If you need specific ideas - look here)
I’d say around 60-80 people is an “average” sized wedding that most venues around the city can accommodate for, but there are two things to keep in mind here:
Transportation - If you have a lot of guests who aren’t familiar with Stockholm (or Sweden) coming into town for the wedding, will they be okay with figuring out public transportation? If not, it might be easiest to find somewhere walkable in the city (or easily accessible to a taxi).
Ceremony & reception venue - If you’re in the city, there aren’t as many places that offer enough space for both a ceremony and reception; if you want to book somewhere central, a separate ceremony and reception venue might be best.
So, what are you feeling - A summer weekend wedding out in the archipelagos, or an evening soirée in the city?! Happy planning!💍
