Where to propose in Stockholm: Top 5 spots
Planning on popping the question in this charming, iconic waterfront city?
A Stockholm wedding coordinator & content creator (hi!) went hunting around the city to find the iconic proposal spots you’ll never forget. These are 5 places (and a bonus two-in-one location) that feature the absolute best of what Stockholm has to offer: Something cozy, charming, and a bit extraordinary.
(Proposal spot photos above, from the left: Waldermarsudde gazebo, Waldermarsudde dock, the Italian Terrace at Bergianska Trädgård, Skeppsholmen, the rose courtyard at Engelbrektskyrkan, and Prästgatan on Gamla Stan)
1. Waldermarsudde - Secluded, elegant, close to city center
Tucked away down a winding road on Djurgården is Waldermarsudde Museum and Café, where you’ll find an elegant estate-turned-art-museum with a view of romantic gardens and Stockholm’s stunning waterfront. But, even better here, are two spots that are absolutely yes-worthy.
The first is the gazebo (Ekotemplet/Lusthuset på Waldermarsudde - see top left photo) on the waterfront side, perfectly placed in the corner of the gardens to be a spot with views of both the whimsical estate and the waterfront.
The second spot offers a much more intimate, quiet spot away from most bustle of museum visitors - down the path from the gazebo (see map below for reference), there’s a hidden pathway down to a quaint dock with a beautifully secluded setup for the perfect proposal. See photo second to the left at the top of the page - It’s easily one of Stockholm’s most stunning hidden gems.
2. The Italian Terrace at Bergianska Trädgård - Off the beaten path, idyllic, breath of fresh air
Just a short train and bus ride outside of city central is a gem of scenic and diverse gardens - And through the florals and foliage lies the perfect terrace with a heavenly view of Brunnsviken (see photo third to the left at the top of the page) . This one requires a short “hike” through the dirt and gravel paths of Bergianska, but every step is worth it.
3. Kastellholmens Utsiktsplats on Skeppsholmen - Quaint, rustic, nautical
Down the water from Waldermarsudde’s spots is the little island of Skeppsholmen (see photo fourth to the left at the top of the page), even closer to the city center. And with a walking path that circles around the entire island, it' offers a unique 360° view of Stockholm’s waterfront and city center, with several cozy spots to ask your special someone a special question. The utsiktsplats offers a view higher up, but if you don’t feel like going too far uphill, there’s a gorgeous proposal spot on this island around every corner.
4. Engelbrektskyrkan - Old-world, English, charming
Among the antique charm of Östermalm, you’ll find a small neighborhood that looks like it came straight out of a charming English village, with a church overlooking part of both the city and neighborhood. And hidden in the charm, just two short staircases of a walk from Uggelviksgatan, is a small courtyard area with a border of roses - perfect for a charming, secluded proposal spot in the city. Even if you’re not affiliated to the church or have a religious background, it’s an absolutely stunning and unique location in the city for anyone who loves a vintage, old-world feel. The bonus? You’re just a few steps away from Mr. Cake to grab a sweet treat after.
5. Prästgatan in Gamla Stan - Heart of the city, antique, endearing
Last but certainly not least, we have the enchanting cobblestone allure of Gamla Stan. Through these narrow roads you’ll find Prästgatan, a side street that typically has lower traffic than other streets and offers just as much charm. It’s perfect for an idyllic stroll, popping the question, and then grabbing a celebratory drink in the heart of Stockholm.
So… which is your favorite?! And once you get that “YES!” and start looking around for a wedding coordinator or wedding content creator - send a message & we’ll make sure your day’s stunning & effortless 💍
